Shane Warne has made it clear that he will not be playing in the next edition of Big Bash League (BBL)

Warne was a part of Melbourne Stars in the first two editions of BBL and he was expected to play for the Stars in the third edition as well, but, the Champion leg spinner decided not to do that.

Warne had captained Stars in the last edition of BBL and had guided them to the semi finals with his attacking captaincy.

In the semi final match, the Stars got beaten by Perth Scorchers. That was a mighty close game though and had gone all the way down to the wire.

Warne is currently in England where he is commentating on the Ashes series. Talking to the reporters at the end of the second day’s play in the second test match, Warne said, “I have decided to retire from competitive cricket. I am not going to participate in the upcoming edition of BBL. It has been great playing for Melbourne Stars in the last couple of seasons. I had a lot of fun, but, now, I think the time has come for me to quit the game.”

When asked about the reasons behind his retirement, Warne said, “I run a business and do commentary as well. Spending some time with my young family is also important for me. I hardly get time from all these things. So, I decided to hang my boots.”

“I want to wish best of luck to the Melbourne Stars team. I will be watching all their matches next season. Hopefully, they will go all the way and win the tournament.”

Cricket Australia hasn’t made clear yet when the next edition of BBL is going to start.
